Sources: Barcelona board decided Ernesto Valverde’s future
Barcelona rumours: As per our sources at Barcelona, the board has decided to stick with Ernesto Valverde until the end of the season. The manager is under fire to deliver but the board are not willing to sack him as it would be a financial hit for the club at the moment.
The Catalan side are on top of the league table and are table toppers in Champions League as well. However, the fans are not happy with the club’s direction as the football quality has decreased drastically.
Fans have been calling for his head for a long time now but the board have stuck by him. The defeat at Liverpool last season was the peak of the sacking rumours but the board decided that it was just a one-off thing despite a similar thing happening the season before at AS Roma.
Barcelona had a 3-0 lead in the fixtures but ended getting knocked out as the opponents managed to outclass them in the 2nd leg. The signings have not proved to be fruitful as well with Griezmann not yet settling in.
Frenkie de Jong has done well so far but for anyone who followed him at Ajax last season, it is clear that he is not at this best yet. Ansu Fati has been the lone bright spark for Barcelona this season as the teenager has made his first-team debut and impressed.
Ernesto Valverde’s contract expires at the club of the season and the board are already on the lookouts for a new manager.
