‘Looking hopeful for them’ – Chelsea handed triple injury boost ahead of FA Cup final vs Manchester City

Chelsea have been handed a triple injury boost ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Calum McFarlane has been handed good news in terms of injury as they prepare to take on Manchester City in the FA Cup this weekend. The interim manager spoke to the media on Thursday and confirmed that key players have trained well.

The Blues were without Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho in their last two Premier League matches following knocks in training. The wingers are now available for the upcoming game after training all week.

“Pedro Neto and Ale Garnacho have trained well this week. Looking hopeful for them.”

The Blues are already without Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian for the season following hamstring injuries to both wingers. Jesse Derry, who was called up fron the academy, suffered a head injury vs Nottingham Forest and is out for the season.

The FIFA Club World Cup champions are also set to welcome Robert Sanchez back in goal after his head injury in the Nottingham Forest loss. The Spaniard clashed heads with Morgan Gibbs-White in the second half of the 3-1 loss, and was out of the Liverpool 1-1 draw at Anfield.

More good news for Chelsea ahead of Manchester City clash

McFarlane has revealed that the goalkeeper is back and is in line to face Manchester City. Adding to the trio, Levi Colwill and Reece James have also trained as normal this week, giving the interim manager an added boost.

“Same sort of story, he’s [Colwill] had a really good rehab. Again, a really good training week. Reece has trained well this week. Happy with Reece.”

Colwill made his first start of the season against Liverpool, while James came off the bench to make his first appearance in two months. Both players are now expected to be in the backline for the FA Cup final.

The match at Wembley is the Blues’ only chance to end the season with silverware, and also a great chance to qualify for the UEFA Europa League after slipping in the Premier League table.

“Our recent league form has been way below the standard we expect. It’s a massive competition and we want to win it. Our focus is on performing as well as we can against a top side.”

Chelsea drew 1-1 at Manchester City under McFarlane in his first match in charge, following Enzo Maresca’s departure on New Year’s Day.
