Liverpool interested in Atletico Madrid defender

Liverpool are planning for life without Dejan Lovren, as his contract expires next summer. The club is looking to sign a replacement for the outing Croatian defender.

According to AS, the Reds have identified Atletico Madrid defender José Giménez as a potential option.

The Uruguayan is the ideal candidate for Jurgen Klopp, the German wants to sign a youthful defender who is commanding in the air as well. Giménez is only 25 years old he has a strong aerial ability.

A problem for Liverpool could his release clause of €120m and his current contract with Atletico expires in 2023. Though he is no longer considered untouchable in the Los Rojiblancos due to his injury problems this season.

Currently, Diego Simone prefers the partnerships of Savic and Filipe Simone in front of Jan Oblak making it more difficult for Giménez to return in the starting eleven.

The Merseyside club have also considered the likes of Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni and Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig as alternatives in case they are unable to bring Giménez to Anfield.
