“That’s what I’m here for” – Red Bull’s Sergio Perez makes bold claims ahead of the new F1 season

Sergio Perez has revealed he wants to battle for the F1 World Championship this season. The Red Bull Racing driver claims he joined them to get himself in the position to win but acknowledged that he had to fight his teammate Max Verstappen for it.

While speaking with ESPN, Perez highlighted his plans for the upcoming season and sent a warning to Verstappen. The Mexican is not keen on playing as the ‘wingman’ again and wants to go all the way to the top.

He said:

“That’s what I’m here for – I prepare myself to be a world champion. I really hope that I can have a good car this season to be able to fight for it. I think there is no secret that I have got the fastest teammate in the whole grid. But I am working into it. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe in myself and if I didn’t work through it. I am only here because I am working to be a world champion and I am giving everything I possibly can.”

Sergio Perez’s crucial role in helping Max Verstappen win the F1 title

Sergio Perez played an important role last season that saw his teammate Verstappen become the World Champion for the first time.

The Red Bull driver finished 4th in the driver’s standing with a total of 205.5 points.

The Mexcian now wants to push on and achieve his ultimate goal – becoming the world champion himself.
