F1 Marshall at Saudi Arabia GP quits after Lewis Hamilton tweet goes viral

A marshall working at the Saudi Arabia GP has been forced to quit after his tweet about Lewis Hamilton went viral. He resigned from his position and confirmed he was no longer working at the circuit.

On Saturday, the marshall tweeted that he wanted Hamilton involved in a crash similar to Romain Grosjean’s at the 2020 Bahrain GP.

The former Haas driver suffered burns after his car split into two and caught fire after crashing in the opening lap.

The tweet caught the attention of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 driver’s fans and was shared widely. The FIA was alerted and immediately investigated the account.

Hours before the final practice session ahead of the Saudi GP on Sunday, SAMF (Saudi Arabian Motorsport Federation) confirmed the marshall was taken off duty.

Back on Twitter, the marshall offered his apology to SAMF and Lewis for his words. He went on to confirm his resignation from the track duties.
