‘Get rid of Timo Werner’ – Former Chelsea striker wants bold changes at the club this summer
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino wants the club to make significant changes to their attack this summer. He wants Timo Werner sold and Romelu Lukaku loaned out as the first steps.
Cascarino believes Chelsea will not win the Premier League title until they get a proper finisher in the squad. He added that the current players are not good enough and revealed changes he would make.
First, the former striker wants Werner sold. He believes the German will not be of any help to Thomas Tuchel’s side next season and wants him replaced with Lautaro Martinez.
He added that Lukaku should be loaned out and claimed Inter Milan would be happy to have the Belgian back. Additionally, Tony wants the Blues to sign Harry Kane as well, but added that it might not happen due to the club’s rivalry with Tottenham.
In his The Times column, Cascarino wrote:
“Chelsea will not win the league until they find a proper finisher. The attacking players they have now are top talents in many ways, but they lack a clinical goalscorer. The FA Cup final against Liverpool showed again that they need too many chances to score – or not score, as was the case on Saturday. Mason Mount is their leading scorer in the league this season, which is not the way it should be at a club like Chelsea.”
Tony continued:
“I like the boy Lautaro Martinez at Inter, so I would suggest Chelsea offer the Italian club the chance to take Romelu Lukaku back on loan, get rid of Timo Werner, and bring in Martínez . He is the sort of technical, ruthless forward they need. Harry Kane would be ideal for them but I don’t think that is a move he could take seriously given Chelsea’s rivalry with Tottenham.”
Chelsea are interested in Robert Lewandowski as well and are said to be one of the three clubs chasing the Bayern Munich star. Barcelona are currently leading the race, with PSG also in the running.
