Winners and Losers as Takumi Minamino joins Liverpool for £7.25M

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg. The Japanese international will be joining on January 1st, 2020 and will be wearing the #18 shirt at Anfield.

With the 24-year-old joining Liverpool, we take a look at the biggest winners and losers from this transfer:

Winner: Liverpool

Minamino is a terrific signing for Liverpool and for just £7.25 million, he is already in the running to be the bargain of the decade (2020-29). The Japanese international impressed in both fixtures against the Reds and it was no surprise that they signed him.

Now, Jurgen Klopp has one more attacking weapon in his arsenal and this will help them going into the business end of the season. The Reds are very likely to be concentrating on a treble this season with Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup still in sight.

Loser: RB Salzburg

Without a doubt, the biggest losers from this transfer are RB Salzburg. Not only have the Austrian side lost a quality player, but they have also received just £7.25 million for him.

If it wasn’t for the release clause in his contract, Salzburg could have easily negotiated a fee that is 4-5 times more than what they got today. There were more clubs interested in him and the price would have kept going up and helped Salzburg pocket a big amount.

Winner: Takumi Minamino

Minamino has not only secured a big transfer, but he is also now set to work with one of the best coaches around. The Japanese international is already a fine talent and with Klopp and his team working with him, he is only going to get better.

Klopp managed to bring out the best in Jordan Henderson but changing his role slightly and also took Salah and Mane to another level. The possibilities for Minamino are endless and he could well and truly be the next big start at Anfield.

Loser: Xherdan Shaqiri

With Minamoni joining, the chances of Shaqiri playing have diminished even more. Salah, Mane and Firmino have made it almost impossible for him to get into the starting XI while Divock Origi’s stunning displays whenever given a chance made him the first choice substitute.

Now with Minamino also in the race, Shaqiri might have to switch clubs to play regularly. There is a good chance of him leaving soon and that might also be the reason why Liverpool snapped up Minamino in January itself.
