Sources: Chelsea’s hunt for left-back intensifies
Chelsea are still on the hunt for a left-back, and the move is now the club’s #1 focus. The Blues have Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri at the club right now, but only one of them is expected to be there next season.
Alex Telles was a target for Chelsea and talks had begun with FC Porto in late February. The deal looked set to be done but was halted by the break in the season due to Coronavirus.
The situation right now is unknown, but one thing clear is that Paris Saint-Germain have also been in touch with them left-back. The move is expected to cost £25 million at max for any side, but reports suggest the Ligue 1 side are leading the race.
Ben Chilwell has always been the #1 target for Frank Lampard, and there was an inquiry for him made in January itself. Leicester City refused to do any business in the winter transfer window and wanted to keep hold of him at least until the end of the season.
There is interest reported interest from Manchster City as well in the Englishman, and that is set to drive up the price even more. Leicester City currently value him just about at the same price they sold Harry Maguire to Manchester United last summer.
The long-term interest in Nicolás Tagliafico has also been a point of focus as Chelsea have a good relation with Ajax. Hakim Ziyech was signed in February, and there were still talks between the clubs.
André Onana and Juan Castillo were the main subjects of the talks at that time, but recently, there have been talks about Tagliafico. The Argentine’s agent has also confirmed that the left-back will be looking to leave Ajax this summer.
As for Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, it is the Italian who is very likely to make space in the first team. He is a target for at least 3 Serie A sides, including Juventus.
