Manchester United star set to take pay cut with new contract
Odion Ighalo, who is on loan at Manchester United from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua, is willing to take a massive pay cut to seal a permanent move to the Red Devils.
Ighalo was brought in by United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January and is set to remain with the Red Devils until the end of the current season.
The Nigerian has impressed during his short stint at Old Trafford, netting four times in eight appearances for United. His displays have earned him high praise from Solskjaer, who is keen on making Ighalo’s move permanent in the summer.
Ighalo currently earns £240,000-a-week in China but is reportedly willing to take a 50% cut in order to join the Red Devils.
That would represent a £6 million drop in annual wages for the Nigerian, whose contract with Shanghai expires in 2021. United, though, have an option to buy and could exercise that in the summer if they are unable to secure a big-money move for another striker.
