David Silva names his replacement at Manchester City
David Silva has confirmed that he will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the 2019/20 season. The Spaniard is set to continue playing but believes that 10 years at Etihad is a long time and he needs to play elsewhere.
When asked if he would stay beyond next season, Silva said: โNo, this is the last one. Ten years for me is enough. It’s the perfect time for me. Initially, City were talking about two years, but I decided to sign [for] another one, so I finished at 10 yearsโ
Talking about an ideal replacement for him at City, the former Valencia midfielder named Phil Foden as the best player to take his place. He said: โIโm sure heโs going to be a fantastic player. Heโs a very nice man and he will be a good replacement for me.โ
โApart from his natural skills, heโs a very competitive person. He always wants to win and that makes a very good footballer. When youโre young, you always ask people with experience. Iโve given him lots of advice, like how to move on the pitch. Heโs taken the information in and heโs getting better day by day.โ
โHe reminds me of myself when I was young โ especially how he is as a person. Heโs very quiet but always there, competing. He hates losing. The best advice I can give him is always [to] stay calm. Whatever happens in football, the highs and lows, always keep calm,โ added Silva.
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City fans have also spoken highly of the young English midfielder and it would be interesting to see how smoothly he takes his place in the starting XI.
