Napoli confirm Lukaku interest; comment on £70M bid rumours
Romelu Lukaku in on the verge of leaving Manchester United and there are three clubs interested in signing him. Inter Milan were the only ones in the running but Juventus‘ stunning Dybala swap offer put them in the driver’s seat.
Reports last night suggested the entry of Napoli in the race and now, their president has confirmed it. Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it clear that he spoke to Lukaku’s agent about bringing the Belgian to Napoli but there was no bid made.
Talking to Sky Sports Italia, De Laurentiis said, “You know why there are rumours about him? Because I am good friends with his agent, Federico Pastorello, who I often wake up at dawn for a chat.”
“Lukaku? I’m very close to his agent Pastorello. I just asked him if Napoli would be a good option for Lukaku or if he’s going to Juve. Then, you know, agents do their interests and say another bid has arrived for the player to create a bidding war. But we made no offer”
Lukaku was keen on joining Inter this summer and even called Antonio Conte the best manager in the world. While the San Siro side agreed to meet United’s asking price, the payment scheme was not something the Red Devils were keen on.
Juve are keen on completing the Dybala-Lukaku swap deal but the Argentine hasn’t made up his mind just yet. The Belgian striker, meanwhile, has reportedly agreed a deal with the Serie A champions.
Napoli could make a move to Mauro Icardi if Lukaku doesn’t join them. The Argentine has been told he can leave Inter this summer as he is not a part of Conte’s plans at the club.
