Liverpool 4-3 Leeds United – Player Ratings and Match Report

WHAT A GAME! Liverpool and Leeds United play out a Premier League classic at Anfield to kick things off in the 2020/21 season. The Red managed to sneak a win at the very end of the game thanks to a penalty from Mohamed salah.

The Egyptian started things off for Liverpool with a penalty in the 4th minute of the game. A shot from outside the box hit Koch’s arm and Michael Oliver pointed to the spot straight away and the Liverpool star made no mistake.

The lead lasted just 9 minutes as Jack Harrisson eased past Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez before taking a stunning shot past Van Dijk and Alisson to level things up. The Leeds man took a neat shot from the outside of the box with his weak foot and found the back of the net at the near post.

Leeds were unable to capitalize on the momentum and saw themselves going behind within 8 minutes. A corner from Robertson found Van Dijk unmarked in the box and the Dutchman headed in with ease.

Patrick Bamford made the most of Van Dijk’s error at the back and got Leeds United back in the game at the half hour mark. The former Chelsea man needed just a touch to set himself up and chip it past Alisson to make it 2-2.

There was no time to breath for the fans as Mohamed Salah made it 3-2 within 3 minutes! A clearance from Leeds defender fell at the feet of Salah inside the box and his shot almost tore the net as it went in.

Things settled down for sometime and the score remained 3-2 for some time. Klich popped up inside the box just after the hour mark to make it 3-3 thanks to a superb ball from Costa.

It looked like the match going to end in a draw but a clumsy foul from Rodrigo gave Liverpool a penalty in the 87th minute and Mohamed Salah stepped up to score his hat-trick and seal all 3 points for Liverpool.
