BREAKING: Jose Mourinho sacked by AS Roma
Jose Mourinho has been sacked by AS Roma after their poor run this season. The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager’s current contract was set to expire at the end of the season.
AS Roma are ninth in the Serie A table after their loss to AC Milan on Sunday. The Giallorossi had won just once in their last six league matches and were also knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Lazio.
Mourinho was booed by Roma fans on Sunday night ahead of their match against AS Milan at San Siro. The manager did not make his way to the away fans after the loss while the majority of the players went to appreciate the traveling supporters.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager leaves AS Roma after winning the UEFA Europa Conference League in the 2021/22 season. Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will be moving to Saudi Arabia before calling it time on his managerial career.
The club released a statement, which read:
“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club. We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
Early reports suggest Daniele De Rossi could become the next AS Roma manager. Chelsea and Brazil are reported to be the possible destinations for Mourinho.
