Jamie Carragher claims Liverpool ‘cannot trust’ Joel Matip

Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool cannot trust Joel Matip this season because of his fitness issues. The centre-back has played just 75 minutes of Premier League in the last 11 months due to his injuries.

The Liverpool legend was talking on Sky Sports when he spoke about the centre-back issues at his former club. He said:

“There’s been talk of Liverpool maybe needing a centre-back. Lovren has left and Joel Matip you cannot trust fitness-wise, and that just leaves Joe Gomez.”

Liverpool fans are rallying for a centre-back but the club are reportedly not keen on signing one. Dejan Lovren earlier this summer but Jurgen Klopp is not looking to replace him.

Liverpool were reportedly unwilling to spend in the market this summer but have gone out a bought three players. Thiago Alcantara was signed from Bayern Munich last week for a reported £25 million while Diogo Jota joined from Wolverhampton on Saturday for a reported £45 million deal.

The only signing before that was Kostas Tsimikas. The left-back arrived from Olympiakos for a reported £11.75 million deal.
