Hungary 1-3 Switzerland – Player Ratings and Match Report

Switzerland are off to a winning start at the EURO 2024 after beating Hungary. They managed a 3-1 win in the Group A clash on Saturday afternoon at the RheinEnergieStadion.

Kwadwo Duah opened the scoring in the 12th minute, just 11 days after making his international debut. The forward initially had his goal ruled out by the linesman for offside, but VAR confirmed that he was on and overturned the decision.

Michel Aebischer made it 2-0 just before the halftime whistle to take his side into the break with a bit of breathing space. Hungary swiftly made a change before the start of the second half by bringing on Bendeguiz Bolla for Adam Long.

It took Hungary some time, but their constant pressure eventually paid off, with Barnabas Varga pulling one back with a header from close range in the 66th minute. The game was thrown wide open since and both sides were looking to get the next goal in the EURO 2024 match.

Unfortunately for Hungary, their all-out attack in the final minutes saw Switzerland counter and Breel Embolo chipped over Péter Gulácsi to make it 3-1 in the injury time.
