“He doesn’t have the level” – Former teammate believes Harry Maguire should not be at Manchester United
Ahmed Elmohamady has claimed Harry Maguire is not good enough to be playing for Manchester United.
The Egyptian played with Maguire at Hull City and believes the defender is not at the level needed to be playing at Old Trafford, let alone be the club captain.
He added that Cristiano Ronaldo should be the next captain at Manchester United as they need a strong personality leading them.
While speaking on beIN Sport, the defender, who last played for Aston Villa in the Premier League, said:
“Harry was with me in Hull City and, in my opinion, he doesn’t have the level to be the Manchester United captain. Man Utd need a player with a strong personality, and I hope that the next manager will give the captaincy to Ronaldo if he stays. Ronaldo can handle this responsibility and pressure; however, Maguire can’t handle this pressure.”
“So I think that the pressure he has by wearing the captain’s armband is affecting his performances. Maguire performed really well with Leicester, a team that competes to be in the top six of the Premier League and maybe this is his level. He doesn’t have the level to play for the biggest team in the history of England.”
Manchester United signed Maguire from Leicester City for a record £80 million fee back in 2019. The defender is yet to prove his worth but was handed the captain’s armband by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
