Poland 1-2 The Netherlands Player Ratings and Match Report
The Netherlands have been saved once again by Wout Weghorst with a late goal in their EURO 2024 opener. The Dutch side went behind to Poland but managed to pull off a 2-1 win.
Ronald Koeman’s side went behind to Polan in the 16th minute after Adam Buksa. The striker managed to beat all Dutch defenders to score via a header at the post.
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo managed to pull The Netherlands level just before the half-hour mark with a deflected effort. His shot from outside the box took a wicked deflection which saw the goalkeeper going the wrong way.
The scoreline remained intact, and both teams went into the break with all eyes on getting the three points in the second half.
Both sides kept going for the win, but could not break the deadlock for all their efforts. Wout Weghorst was brought on by Koeman with 10 minutes to go, and the Dutch striker scored within two minutes.
Nathan Ake’s pass took a slight deflection and fell right in the former Manchester United loanee’s path, and he made no mistake from close range. The Dutch held on for a 2-1 win in their EURO 2024 opener.
