Germany 5-1 Scotland – Player Ratings and Match Report
Germany have sent a message to the teams at EURO 2024 with a thumping win over Scotland in the opening match. The hosts sealed a 5-1 win over the Scottish side at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Florian Wirtz opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an effort from outside that box that caught Angus Guss off guard. The Scotland keeper got his right hand to the ball but was unable to stop it from going in off the post.
Jamal Musiala made it 2-0 within the first 20 minutes with a strong effort from inside the box. Germany had a penalty ruled out by VAR at the half-hour mark, but the video assistants handed them a penalty towards the end of the half after Ryan Porteous’s crunching attempt caught Ilkay Gundogan.
Kai Havertz stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-0. The scoreline remained intact going into the break of the first EURO 2024 match.
The German were in full control once again in the second half, but were just unable to get another goal until Niclas Fรผllkrug came on for Havertz after the hour mark.
The Borussia Dortmund star’s pile driver gave Gunn no chance to come close to the shot as it sailed in. The striker had the ball in the back of the net again, but VAR ruled that one out for offside.
Scotland looked down and out as they were unable to get anything neat the Germany box. However, a freekick late in the game saw Antonio Rudiger put the ball into the back of his own net to make the scoreline 4-1. Emre Can came off the bench to to make it 5-1 and make it a 5-star performance for the EURO 2024 hosts.
