โDerby County can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridgeโ read the Championship side’s post on Twitter.
They followed it up with the same on their club statement and added: โWith pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions. The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.โ
Our sources at Chelsea have also reported that Lampard has agreed the personal terms for a return. The former English midfielder will be returning with the club’s former U21 coach, Jody Morris who left last summer.
Reports suggest that a compensation fee has been agreed between the two clubs and it is around ยฃ4 million. However, our sources have indicated that Chelsea could avoid paying it by sending players on loan to the Championship side, just like Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori went last season.
Chelsea are currently serving a transfer ban and will not be able to sign any player this summer or in January. They have appealed to CAS but have not asked for the ban to be frozen.
