Timo Werner set to join Chelsea rivals on 6-month loan deal – Reports
Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner is reportedly set to join Tottenham on a 6-month loan deal from RB Leipzig.
Werner, who was deemed excess to requirements at RB Leipzig, is set for a return to the Premier League in the winter transfer window. The German forward is heading back to London but will be moving to Tottenham this time around.
Manchester United were linked with the 27-year-old this window as Erik ten Hag was looking for strikers who can add goals to his squad. However, Ange Postecoglou’s side have stolen the march and are now close to agreeing terms as per Sky Sports’s Florian Plettenberg.
The journalist has hinted that there could be an option to buy for the Premier League side at the end of the season. Werner started just 4 of his 14 games in all competitions this season, scoring twice and assisting once.
Tottenham bolstered their attack in the summer by adding Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest and Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central. Postecoglou now wants another striker to his squad and Spurs are in final negotiations to land Werner.
The German international joined Chelsea in 2020 adn struggled at Stamford Bridge. He scored 23 times and assisted 21 in his 89 matches before heading back to RB Leipzig in 2022.
