Chelsea keen on signing Barcelona loanee
Chelsea are keeping tabs on Barcelona winger Marc Cucurella – who is currently on loan at Getafe – according to reports in Goal.
Cucurella can play a variety of roles, including left-wing, left-back and left wing-back, and will complete a move to Getafe this summer for €6 million.
His new contract is set to have a release clause of €25 million and it remains to be seen if Chelsea are willing to cough up such an amount for an unproven player.
Cucurella had previously expressed his displeasure with parent club Barcelona, who he believes do not provide players such as him enough opportunities to fulfil their potential.
“I think that at Barcelona, which is a big club, the important thing is to win in the end,” he said. “Maybe they don’t have the patience that they [once] had. As a cantera player, which I am, they don’t give you the chances you deserve.
“I don’t like it because I expected they would be more confident in the youth academy (cantera). In football, the important thing is to win. Winning is more important than having patience.”
The Spaniard has starred for Getafe this season, helping his side challenge for the Champions League spots. His displays have caught the attention of several top European clubs, including Chelsea, but the Blues are likely to make a move only if they fail in their pursuit of top targets Ben Chilwell and Alex Telles.
