Chelsea in talks to sign Benfica starlet
Chelsea rumours: Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes is a target for Chelsea according to Sky Sports. They report that the Blues have made a loan bid with a conditional obligation to buy.
The report states that Chelsea have made an 18-month loan offer to Benfica with the obligation to buy him for £55 million at the end of it. However, the current Europa League winners have added a condition to the buying obligations.
Chelsea are only willing to sign him if he plays at least 50% of the games during his loan spell at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard is reportedly interested in adding the 20-year-old to his squad that already has the likes of Loftus-Cheek, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount and others in the battle for the spots in the starting XI.
West Ham United are also in the running for Gedson and Sky suggest that they too have made an offer. The Hammers have also suggested an 18-month loan deal with an obligation to buy for £33 million – it does not include a condition of playing any number of games.
Fernandes’ release clause currently stands at £103 million and Sky report that the Portuguese side have admitted that no one will be activating it. He is out of favour at the club after falling out with the manager, Bruno Lage.
