Chelsea and Barcelona lead chase for Nico Williams – Sources

Chelsea and Barcelona waiting for Nico Williams to make his decision. Athletic Bilbao star is expected to take the call before heading for vacation this week.

Nico Williams has a €58 million release clause and Athletic Bilbao are expecting clubs to activate it this summer. The Spaniard has several clubs interested in him, but Chelsea and Barcelona are leading the chase.

PSG, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the situation. How sources close to the player have told TheSportzine that the decision is expected this week.

Staying at Bilbao for another season has not been ruled out just yet. The Basque are keen on keeping the youngster as they aim to get back in the Top 4 this season.

Lamine Yamal has been pushing for the winger to join Barcelona this summer. In an interview on Jijantes’ Twitch channel, hosted by journalist Gerard Romero, the EURO 2024 Young Player of the Tournament said:

“I don’t have a say in this, but I’d love to play with him.”

Meanwhile, Marc Cucurella has been telling Williams to make the move to Chelsea. The left-back said:

“I tell him every day he should come to Chelsea, he would help us a lot! He is more than welcome and he knows that (laughs). But he is so young, he has to decide by himself and with his people, so it’s not time to put too many things in his head.”

Chelsea and Barcelona are ready to activate the €58 million release clause and are confident of agreeing personal terms.
