Arsenal agree deal with Chelsea for David Luiz
Arsenal have agreed a deal with Chelsea for David Luiz according to David Ornstein. The Brazilian is set to cost the Gunners £8 million according to the report.
David Luiz was on the verge of becoming a free agent at the end of last season but agreed a 2-year deal at Chelsea. The defender is the most experienced centre-back at the club right now but decided to leave as Frank Lampard saw him as a #4 choice.
Our sources at the club have reported that Lampard was going into the season with Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen as his prefered centre-back choice. Antonio Rudiger has returned to training but is expected to be fully fit in another month.
Chelsea sources have also reported that Luiz informed the club a few days back regarding Arsenal’s interest and his desire to move. The defender’s agent was the one who pushed for the move and had offered him to the Gunners.
David Luiz will not be the only signing Arsenal are making on Deadline Day. Celtic left-back, Kieran Tierney is also on his was for a medical after the clubs agreed a deal for him last night.
As for Chelsea, Luiz’s won’t be the only outgoing transfer as Danny Drinkwater is set to leave as well. Burnley, Brighton & Hove and Norwich City are interested in signing him.
