Real Madrid beat Barcelona to sign €40M rated defender

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Álvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad. The right-back will undergo a medical before signing a six-year deal at Bernabeu.
The 22-year-old right back was linked with Barcelona but Los Blancos have managed to beat them for his signature.

Real Madrid met with Sociedad president, Jokin Aperribay and informed him that they would be activating Odriozola’s €40 million release clause.
Real Madrid CF and Real Sociedad have agreed to the transfer of the player Álvaro Odriozola, pending the medical examination. The player is linked to the club for the next six seasons. – Real Madrid’s statement

Despite being just 4 years younger than Dani Carvajal, Odriozola is seen as his long-term replacement. The 22-year-old will not get to play much next season but will be a very important player in the years to come.
That leaves a dark cloud over Achraf Hakimi’s future at Bernabeu. Nothing has been mentioned yet but he is likely to be loaned out for the 2018/19 season.
