Thomas Tuchel confirms Chelsea star’s contract has been extended
Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract at Chelsea has been extended by a year. Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the news in his pre-Brentford press conference.
However, the German manager has not been able to confirm if the club captain will be at Stamford Bridge next season. He claims the possibility is high and did sound confident about keeping the Spaniard.
“I knew it was going to happen [that his contract was going to have an extra year]. It is good news for us. We have a contract and he has a contract, so there’s a very high probablity that he will stay.”
Barcelona are still interested in signing the versatile defender this summer on a free transfer. The Catalan side were confident of getting him, but a clause in Cesar Azpilicueta‘s contract saw his deal at the premier league side extended by another season.
However, Chelsea are set to lose Andreas Christensen once the season ends. The Danish star initially accepted a new contract but changed his mind after an offer from Barcelona. He has signed a pre-contract with the Spanish club as per Nitwik Sports sources.
The Catalan side have held talks with Antonio Rudiger as well, as he too will become a free agent in the summer if he does not pen a new deal.
