Bruno Fernandes move to Manchester United under FIFA investigation
Manchester United’s signing of Bruno Fernandes is now under FIFA investigation after Sampdoria filed a complaint against Sporting CP. The Serie A claim that they entitles to receive €4.65 million from the move but the Portuguese side have not made the payment.
The Premier League side paid €55 million for the midfielder as per reports and Sampdoria claim they were supposed to get 8% of that as a part of the sell-on clause.
The Portuguese star had joined Sporting CP from Sampdoria in 2017 for a reported fee of €8.5 million. FIFA have confirmed that the complaint has been registered and the investigation is underway.
“We can confirm that on 3 April 2020 the Italian club, UC Sampdoria, lodged a claim with FIFA against the Portuguese club, Sporting Clube de Portugal, related to financial obligations set out in the contract corresponding to the transfer of the Portuguese player, Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes. The matter is currently being investigated and consequently, we cannot provide further comments.”
Sporting CP, however, claim that the sell-on clause was void after he terminated his contract in May 2018. He was among the players who had walked away from the club following a training ground incident where the players were attacked by the club ultras.
Bruno Fernandes re-signed for the Liga NOS side weeks later and Sporting argue that he was a free-agent when signed.
Fernandes moved to Old Trafford in the January transfer window after months of speculations. He has settled in well at the club but things were halted because of the Coronavirus lockdown.
