Arsenal sack Unai Emery as manager
The Spaniard took over in May 2018 after Wenger left
Arsenal news: Arsenal have confirmed that Unai Emery has been sacked as the manager of the club. The Spaniard was under pressure to deliver but the results have been abysmal this season.
The former PSG manager replaced Arsene Wenger in May 2018 and guided the Gunners to the Europa League final last season, where they lost to Chelsea. They finished 5th in the table and were forced to play in the Europa League once again.
The Gunners have not won any of their last 7 games in all competitions and were beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt last night. Unai Emery’s side could not seal their place in the knockout stages after the 2-1 loss and now need to avoid a defeat against Standard Liege on the final matchday of the group stages.
In the Premier League, Arsenal have drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 5 matches. They are 8th in the table with 18 points โ 8 behind Chelsea who are sitting at the 4th place.
Arsenal have appointed Freddie Ljungberg as the caretaker manager right now. Our sources reported that Jose Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick were the leading candidates to replace Emery but Jose has now been appointed by Arsenal’s derby rivals, Tottenham.
