Manchester City eye €35M star as Kompany’s replacement
Manchester City are on the hunt for an ideal replacement for Vincent Kompany and have reportedly spotted one in Italy. Reports in Corriere dello Sport suggest that the Cityzens are keen on signing Kostas Manolas from AS Roma this summer.
The centre-back has a €35M release clause on his contract and several clubs are interested in him. The 27-year-old is on the radar of Juventus, Manchester United and Arsenal as well as per the report.
Manolas was a target for Manchester City 2 seasons ago and it was confirmed by his agent as well. “The best clubs in Europe want him. There isn’t just Manchester City, but also United and Chelsea,” he said.
Corriere dello Sport report that Roma need to sell players and raise €45 million before the end of the month to stay on par with FFP regulations. City are looking to snap him up quickly but have tough competition from Juventus.
Serie A champions are looking to sign him up but are currently finishing things up with Chelsea for Maurizio Sarri. The Italian manager is reportedly keen on working with Manolas and has asked the Juve board to sign him this summer.
Manchester United were the ‘hot favourites’ at the start of this summer as they are keen on bolstering their defence. But the Red Devils have lost ground after they started chasing Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt.

Corriere dello Sport are a very reliable source. Given that Manchester City need a good centre-back, the move might be well and truly on. For €35 million, Manolas will prove to be a bargain. If he flops, they will be able to recover the amount as several clubs are still keen on signing him.
