3 reasons why Chelsea should not appoint Frank Lampard
According to various reports, Chelsea and Maurizio Sarri are said to part ways in the summer. Reports in Italy suggest that the manager is in talks with Juventus regarding a move to the Serie A club.
As per reports in the United Kingdom Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is set to take over at Stamford Bridge as the replacement for the outgoing manager, Sarri. The former English midfielder has just entered into management and is currently in charge of Derby County.
While he has done a tremendous job in his first season as a manager, moving to Chelsea would be a big step. Here are three reasons why Chelsea should not appoint Lampard if they part ways with Sarri:
#3 – It’s too early for Lampard
As mentioned before Frank Lampard has just gotten into management. It is way too early for the English midfielder to take charge of the Champions League club or even a club that he is looking to play European football on a regular basis.
He has managed to get Derby County into the Championship PlayOff final and is one win away from taking them back to the Premier League. It is a big achievement in his first season and it has to be commended but rewarding him with a role at Chelsea is too big.
Lampard needs to gain experience and he needs to be managing Derby for 2-3 more seasons, at least, before moving to Chelsea. And when he does arrive, he needs to bring John Terry as well who is currently the assistant manager at Aston Villa.
#2 – Sarri is getting hold of things at Chelsea
It’s a fact that Chelsea were one of the worst sides at the turn of the year. They started the season well but in December, January and February, they were at their worst.
They got humiliated by Bournemouth and Manchester City but since the Carabao Cup final, Sarri has done some amazing work. He has got the tactics and starting XI right a lot of times and it has shown in the performance.
While many still believe that the manager’s way of playing football is a bit boring, the blame for that has to be put on the players, and not the coach. Sarri’s Napoli were a joy to watch and given the right players, the manager can deliver the same at Stamford Bridge as well.
Chelsea need to remain patient with the manager and keep him for at least another season or two, depending on how things go at the start of the 2019/20 season.

#1 – Squad isn’t up to the mark
When the talk of club legends coming back to manage their sides comes up, people will give examples of Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane. They will also point out how successful they were at Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively but the fact they forget is that the two Spanish sides were in a way better shape than Chelsea are right now.
Lampard is someone who might be able to deliver with the youth at the club but you need to have a perfect mix of youth and experience to succeed in Europe. Right now, Chelsea are in a transition and they need get some stability under Sarri.
Unless the Chelsea board is willing to a gamble and give Lampard 2-3 seasons regardless of the results, they should not appoint the former midfielder.
Lampard along with Terry at Chelsea would be a dream but now is not the time. Getting him to replace Sarri would be the biggest mistake since the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti.
