Fiorentina captain, Davide Astori passes away

Fiorentina star, Davide Astori passed away in his sleep last night. The 31-year-old was with the Viola squad in the team hotel ahead of their game vs Udinese.

According to Udine Today, the defender did not wake up this morning. He had become a father just two weeks ago.

The Serie A side have released a statement confirming the sad news:

“Fiorentina are profoundly shaken and forced to announce that their captain Davide Astori has died. For this terrible and delicate situation, and above all out of respect for his family, we appeal to the sensitivity of the media.”

Udinese v Fiorentina has been called off for the same reason. There are reports that the other game to be played on Sunday in the Serie A will also be postponed.

Genoa v Cagliari was set to kick off but the news of Astori passing away came when the players were warming up and the were visibly shaken.
